Class Tuition Types

Studioware supports 3 different types of tuition calculations for a class:

  • Fixed tuition for the entire class:

With this tuition option, the total amount of tuition is set for the entire class.  For example, if a class runs for 2 months, you can set the tuition to be $200 for the entire 2 months.  When a student is enrolled in class where the entire tuition is set when the class is created, the tuition charges are automatically calculated and posted to the student's account at the time of enrollment.  Any applicable discounts are also calculated and posted to the student's account.

With the "fixed tuition for the entire class", Studioware allows you to specify the payment schedule for the tuition.  With Studioware, you can specify when the tuition is due, and what percentage is due.  For example, you can have 20% of the tuition due at the time of enrollment, 40% due on the date of the 4th class, and the remaining 40% due 2 weeks before the class ends.  Studioware will calculate the amounts due and the due dates when students are enrolled in classes.

  • Fixed tuition for an individual lesson:

With this option, you specify how much tuition is due for individual classes.  For example, if a class meets once a week for a month, you can specify that the tuition charge per individual lesson is $12.00 for example.  Studioware will automatically post the tuition to the class when a student enrolls in the class.  This option is especially useful for months that have an extra week.  For example, if a class meets once a week every Monday evening in September, 2010, then the class meets Sept 6th, Sept 13, Sept 20, and Sept 27.  Therefore, the Monday evening class meets 4 times and the tuition will be $48.  If the class is also scheduled to meet on Wednesday evenings with a different set of students, the class will meet on Sept 1, Sept 8, Sept 15, Sept 22, and Sept 29.  therefore, the Wednesday evening class meets 5 times and the tuition will be $60 for these students.  Again, this type of tuition is automatically posted to the student's accounts.

  • Hourly/Variable Tuition:

Studioware allows you to specify that a class's tuition is based on the number of hours of classes a week.  Here's how the hour class tuition works:

    • You create a class and mark the tuition as "Hourly"
    • You create the Tuition Fee Schedule.  This schedule indicates how much monthly tuition to charge students based on the number of weekly hours of classes.
    • You enroll students in the hourly classes.  There are no tuition transactions posted to the student's financial accounts when they are enrolled in hourly tuition classes.  That is, the tuition transactions for hourly tuition classes are NOT automatic.
    • Usually, once a month at the beginning of the month, you are ready to post the tuition to the student's financial accounts for the "hourly" classes.  You must click on "Accounting" in the main menu followed by "Calculate Hourly Tuition".  After following the instructions on the web page, the tuition transactions will be posted to the student's account for the hourly classes according to the tuition fee schedule.
